Casting small shadows.”

Passing Thru Photo
We recently moved (2014) into probably our last home before “the home”, a modest retirement cottage on our lake and my last architectural design too. Our prior home was a Greek revival farmhouse that we restored, renovated and expanded. It included an old blacksmith shop that we moved to the edge of our woods and converted into my studio. This is a 20 x 20 foot, one story, classical outbuilding. Now all white inside and out, a cathedral ceiling, and a pair of French doors that provide a view of the gardens, our house and the lake’s edge.
This painting expresses the nature of the changing light that often slants through the adjoining trees as the sun progresses across the sky. It is a simple motif but as one looks closer, from hour to hour, the patterns change, spots of color come an go and an ethereal dance results.
