KEZAR SUNRISE
Acrylic on canvas, 18” x 36”
“To a Kezar sunrise I awake,
A new day born, as are we.
Such possibilities await;
Life happens, and we can be.”

I live on this lovely little lake in New Hampshire so I get to see if at different times of day and in differing seasons.
I have abstracted the views from our bedroom and great room using geometry to express the power of the sun’s rays and the strength of the native trees.
The geometric patterns, a vehicle I often use, are there to express my sense of the interconnectedness of all things. This includes our human artifacts as seen or imagined in relation to nature.
The two pictures, one with my transposition grid lines added, show the rising sun’s colors. While the trees appear almost black, in reality they are a dark gray-blue.
If sunrise is a metaphor for birth then winter is a metaphor for death or the completion of the endless cycle. See “Winter’s Cracks” for the companion to this piece
