Big Brown
North Sutton, NH & St Pete, FL – 2015
Acrylic on Canvas, 24” x 24”
White Floater Frame
“Sunlight streams in canyons narrow,
Between cliffs of steel and glass;
Daydreams of the north country,
Her big brown retreat, at last.”

Our oldest daughter lives in Boston but has a country retreat near our home in New Hampshire – affectionately called Big Brown, because it is.
The lines of this building’s façade were used to create the major action movements in this painting, albeit turned sideways.
The play of spaces in the form of rectangles and triangles also refers to the Bostron streets and blocks where she resides. So, hopefully, this painting shows the dialog between her urban and rural lives.
