There is no quatrain for this piece since the painting is itself a poem.

This is my attempt to explain what is absolutely necessary for our country to get back on track. The extremists on both sides have co-opted the good word “compromise” so that is now a symbol of disgust and weakness. In fact it is an essential component of a successful democracy.

Our strength is most evident when we are able and willing to hear and then empathize with another’s needs. This is a nation for all, so how can COMPROMISE not be essential to our well being?

First family, then friends, and then community have to talk and really listen to each other before we can expect Washington to respond. We have elected who we are.
